Moscow expects violence in Afghanistan to decline if U.S. withdraws troops - diplomat

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Moscow believes that if the United States withdraws its troops from certain provinces of Afghanistan, the level of violence there should decline, Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan and Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov said.

"If they pull out of there, as a source of irritation, it would be logical to expect violence to decline there," Kabulov told Interfax on Tuesday.

"If the Taliban [banned in Russia] reaches agreement with the Americans, a ceasefire will be declared - at least by the Americans, the foreign forces, and the Taliban. So, logically, violence should end," he said.
