Air defense of Russia's Hmeimim base destroys two attack drones of militants - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Two attack drones of militants preparing to strike on the Russian airbase in Hmeimim, Syria, were destroyed on Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"Operational air defense systems of the Russian airbase destroyed both attack drones of the terrorists at safe distances. There are neither casualties nor material damage," the statement said.

According to the ministry, two maneuvering drones were detected by Russian airspace surveillance systems at some distance from Russia's Hmeimim airbase at about 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

"The drones were approaching the Russian airbase from the northwest," it said.

The ministry noted that the Hmeimim airbase continued to operate as usual.
