MOSCOW Sept 5 (Interfax) - The New START Treaty should remain active while long overdue discussions on strategic stability take place, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Let me stress once again that our position is as follows: prior to finding ways of developing a dialogue on maintaining strategic stability in new conditions, we do not have the right and cannot afford to lose the New START Treaty," Lavrov said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.
The text of the interview is available at the Russian Foreign Ministry's official website.
"We cannot fail to make it live while discussions go on that, of course, are long overdue in the strategic stability sphere on issues that concern every nuclear state," he said.
