Russian children's rights commissioner meeting with Syrian president - press service

MOSCOW. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Russian presidential Children's Rights Commissioner Anna Kuznetsova is meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, her press service said.

"Anna Kuznetsova is paying a working visit to the Syrian Arab Republic. The children's rights commissioner will have several meetings on issues relating to children's protection. Anna Kuznetsova and Bashar al-Assad are meeting at this moment," the press service for the children's rights commissioner told Interfax on Thursday.

The press service does not report on the goals of the talks.

Kuznetsova said in early August that talks on the return of Russian children from the country were underway with Syria and that meetings were being held in the Foreign Ministry on this matter. The first children expected to be returned are young orphans.

According to earlier reports, ninety children have been returned from Iraq to Russia.
