South Ossetia closing border with Georgia indefinitely due to the aggravation of situation

TSKHINVAL. Sept 10 (Interfax) - The work of the checkpoints on South Ossetia's border with Georgia has been suspended, the South Ossetian State Security Committee said on Monday.

"In order to ensure the security of the South Ossetian population, the operation of the border crossing sites of the South Ossetian-Georgian state border, Razdakhan and Sinagur, have been temporary suspended," the committee said in a statement.

This decision was made in light of Tbilisi's aggravation of tensions on a number of sectors of the state border, and the ensuing complication of the operational situation in the border area, it said.

The aforementioned checkpoints are to resume operations after the situation normalizes, the South Ossetian State Security Committee said.
