KYIV. Sept 10 (Interfax) - The 2019 Rapid Trident multinational exercise will take place in the Lviv region from September 13-28; in addition to Ukraine and the United States, another nine countries have agreed to participate in it.
The exercise will take place at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy, the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff said on its Facebook page. Over 3,600 servicemen and 600 pieces of military hardware will take part.
In addition to units of Ukraine and the United States, the defense agencies of the United Kingdom, Canada, Georgia, Lithuania, Turkey, Moldova, Bulgaria, Poland, and Romania agreed to participate in the exercise. Servicemen of the multinational component of the Hetman Konstanty Ostrogski Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG) will also take part in Rapid Trident 2019.
The largest military contingent comes from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The exercise will involve the servicemen of the 10th mountain assault brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces' West operational command, the Ukrainian National Guard, and separate units of other forces of the country.
Delta Force, in particular, will represent the U.S. in the drill.
According to the scenario, the Ukrainian troops and the units of its partners will learn countering an armed aggression amid a hybrid war. The servicemen will train a number of objectives of a combat, logistics, and humanitarian nature. Another aspect of the current exercise is the evaluation of certain units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in accordance with the NATO Operational Capability Concept Evaluation and Feedback Program.
Rapid Trident 2019 is the largest joint ground exercise of the Ukrainian Armed forces, other Ukrainian troops, and military units of foreign countries.
