CSTO Interstate Commission for Military-Economic Cooperation meeting in Yerevan

YEREVAN. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan has called for stepping up the cooperative efforts of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states in the high-tech field.

"The level of cooperation between the high-tech enterprises of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states has been insignificant. Work should be stepped up, in particular, in the car industry, micro-electronics, and artificial intelligence projects," Avinyan said in his opening remarks at a meeting of the CSTO Interstate Commission for Military-Economic Cooperation.

"Cooperation in the field of high-tech remains a priority of broader military-economic contacts between member states. Obviously, the level of cooperation between enterprises of CSTO member states that operate in high-tech areas is insufficient and requires additional attention of our states," Avinyan said.

The CSNO meeting in Yerecan is chaired by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov. Other members of the Russian delegation are acting CSTO Secretary General Valery Semerikov and Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin.

More intensive cooperation in the field of high-tech could be an additional, meaningful instrument of closer interaction between CSTO member states, Avinyan said.

"Apart from developing broader approaches to future contacts in this area, we suggest that we start with boosting joint activity within the existent or pending development programs for the car industry, aerospace products and systems, micro-electronics, radio-electronics, specialized communication systems, industrial internet, and artificial intelligence," he said.

Armenia is ready to look into these issues, and deems the Interstate Commission to be a venue for discussing each important aspect, Avinyan said. "Armenia sees the CSTO as a key instrument of the provision of security and stability in the zone of the organization's responsibility," he said.
