Council of the European Union extends individual anti-Russia sanctions by 6 months (Part 2)

BRUSSELS. Sept 12 (Interfax) - The Council of the European Union on Thursday decided to extend by six months the individual restrictive measures against citizens and organizations that the EU considers involved in "actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine."

"The measures consist of an asset freeze and travel restrictions. They currently apply to 170 persons and 44 entities. The relevant information and statement of reasons for the listing of these persons and entities have been updated as necessary," according to a communique released in Brussels.

The new stage of the individual sanctions will stay in place until March 15, 2020.

The decision extending the restrictive measures will take effect after the legal acts are published in the Official Journal on September 13, 2019.

The decision was adopted by the Council according to written procedure.

The Council of the European Union press service said the "economic sanctions targeting specific sectors of the Russian economy, currently in place until 31 January 2020" and "restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, limited to the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol, currently in place until 23 June 2020."
