Almaz-Antey delivers S-400 regimental set ahead of schedule (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Sept 12 (Interfax) - A regimental set of S-400 Triumf air defense missile systems has been delivered to the Russian army, a spokesman for the Almaz-Antey company told Interfax on Thursday.

"Consistent with the government defense contract, Almaz-Antey has supplied this year's first regimental set of S-400 Triumf air defense missile systems to the Russian Defense Ministry ahead of schedule. The ceremony took place at the Kapustin Yar training range in the Astrakhan region," the spokesman said.

The systems destroyed targets in an air defense fight at the testing range, the spokesman said, adding that "the commissioning tests were successful."

"Despite being busy with a series of major export contracts, government defense contracts are our priority. Teamwork of the company's collective makes it possible to accomplish the mission with flying colors: orders are fulfilled ahead of time, or at least on schedule," the spokesman quoted Almaz-Antey General Director Yan Novikov as saying.

Almaz-Antey's S-400 Triumf long-range air defense missile system is designed to hit strategic and tactical aircraft, ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets, and other aerial attack means amid ECM and other countermeasures.

The system destroys aerodynamic targets at a range of up to 400 kilometers and ballistic targets flying at a speed of 4.8 kilometers per second at altitudes ranging from several meters to several dozen kilometers at a range of up to 60 kilometers.

According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the army will get two regimental sets of S-400 systems in 2019.

As earlier reported, two S-400 battalions are defending Russian bases in Hmeimim and Tartus, Syria. Meanwhile, Russia is implementing two S-400 export contracts with China and Turkey. The fulfillment of a contract with India for five regimental sets of S-400 systems is due to begin after 2020.
