MOSCOW. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Moscow has addressed Interpol in the wake of media reports in the United States that former Kremlin official Oleg Smolenkov, who is considered missing in Russia, is staying in the U.S., Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"A Russian citizen went missing in a foreign country along with his family. As far as we know, Russia immediately opened a criminal case into this fact," Zakharova said at a news briefing on Thursday.
"Two years later, U.S. media outlets dump reports that he is in the U.S. It goes without saying that such reports need to be verified through relevant procedures, and therefore Washington was asked some questions via Interpol regarding the disappearance of a Russian citizen and his presence in the territory of the United States of America," she said.
