MOSCOW. Sept 13 (Interfax) - A combined Russian-Serbian unit successfully repelled a simulated large-scale airstrike during the Slavic Shield 2019 exercise at the Ashuluk training range in Russia, the Press Service and Information Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.
"Air defense and radar troops of the Aerospace Forces of Russia and units of the Air Force and Air Defense Force of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Serbia were put on high alert seven times during the joint exercise to detect and escort air targets," it said.
In all, more than 50 air targets identified as mock enemy planes were detected during the exercise, which focused on covering fire positioning areas and repelling large-scale airstrikes, it said.
"At radar units' command points, navigation service officers practiced directing fire of the Russian Su-27 fighter jets on air targets. Electronic launches of surface-to-air and airborne-guided missiles were conducted against intruder aircraft," the ministry said.
Radar units and stations taking part in the Russian-Serbian exercise are deployed in missile-threat sectors and are on round-the-clock combat duty, it said.
