S. Ossetia, Georgia fail to resolve border situation at IPRM meeting

TSKHINVAL. Sept 13 (Interfax) - A meeting between South Ossetia and Georgia, which was held in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM)'s format on Friday, failed, South Ossetian delegation head Yegor Kochiyev told Interfax.

"There was only one item on the agenda, i.e. situation near the village of Uista (Tsnelis) where Georgia had placed a police post. Georgia refuses to remove the post, and we keep insisting this must be done," Kochiyev said.

South Ossetia reported the unlawful construction of a Georgian post near the border village of Uista in late August and demanded that it be removed. Georgia refused to meet the demand at three technical meetings held in the IPRM format. Seeking to ensure security of the local population, South Ossetia put its own post on a hill near the village and enhanced military presence in the border area, causing Georgia's discontent.
