Russian military report deployment of S-400 missile systems on Novaya Zemlya

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - The Russian military have deployed new S-400 air defense systems Triumf on Novaya Zemlya, archipelago in the Arctic, the Russian Northern Fleet press service said on Monday.

"The air defense missile regiment of the Northern Fleet, stationed on Yuzhny Island on Novaya Zemlya, has been fully re-equipped with new S-400 air defense missile systems," the fleet said in a report.

The military said the personnel of the regiment have been trained to use the new systems and are ready to go on combat duty. The regiment previously had S-300 missile systems.

"The transition to new S-400 systems considerably increases the area of the controlled air space in the Arctic," the Northern Fleet press service said.

S-400 systems are successfully operated in the Far North and in the Arctic and they have been on combat duty in the Northern Fleet forces in Kola Zapolyarye for several years now.
