Situation on non-delimitated section of Kyrgyz-Tajik border is stable - Kyrgyz border guards

OSH/BISHKEK. Sept 16 (Interfax) - The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is stable, but construction work on the non-delimitated territory continues, the press service for the Kyrgyz State Border Guard Service told Interfax on Monday.

"The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as stable. The Kyrgyz side continues the work to put asphalt on the Kok-Tash-Aksai road, the State Border Guard Service is building a border checkpoint in the populated area of Aksai, Batken district. Tajikistan continues unauthorized work on the non-delimitated section of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in the Zhaka-Oruk neighborhood," the State Border Guard Service said.

According to border guards, the highway connecting Osh, Batken and Isfan is open to road vehicles.

The units of the Kyrgyz State Border Guard Service have been put on high alert on the Kyrgyz-Tajik part of the state border in order to prevent an escalation of the conflict, the report said.

According to earlier reports, Tajik citizens started unauthorized construction work on the non-delimitated section of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in the Leilek district of the Batken region on Friday. The Kyrgyz authorities are demanding that the work should stop.
