Moscow City Court declines to release suspected U.S. spy Whelan

MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court upheld the arrest of suspected U.S. spy Paul Whelan as lawful on Tuesday.

"The Moscow Lefortovsky District Court's ruling, which extends the restrictive measure against Whelan until October 29, is upheld, and the defense's appeal is dismissed," Judge Yury Pasyunin said.

The Moscow City Court did not find a reason to mitigate the restrictive measure against Whelan. The defense insisted that he be put under house arrest or released on bail.
