MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax) - The Far Eastern branch of the Russian Investigative Committee has opened an inquiry into the attack of North Korean poachers on Russian border guards in the Primorye territory, the agency said in a statement seen by Interfax on Wednesday.

"According to the investigators, fishing ships flying the North Korean flag were seen poaching bio-resources in the Russian exclusive economic zone of the Sea of Japan at around 5 p.m. on September 17," the agency said.

The North Korean poachers actively resisted the inspection team and inflicted injuries of various degrees of severity on four team members, one of whom sustained a gunshot wound.

A criminal case was opened after the incident under Article 317 of the Russian Criminal Code (attack on a law enforcement officer), the statement said.
