Man suspected of backing ISIL, planning terror attack detained in Dagestan - NAC

MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax) - A man suspected of sympathizing with the terrorist organization ISIL (banned in Russia) and planning to commit a terrorist attack against law enforcement officials and local authorities has been detained in Dagestan.

"It has been determined that the detainee, a Russian citizen born in 2000, has been sympathizing with the international terrorist organization ISIL since August 2019 and planned to commit a terrorist attack against law enforcement officials and local government bodies," the National Antiterrorist Committee told Interfax on Wednesday.

Federal Security Service (FSB) officers detained the young man in the course of a search and investigative operation in a forested area in the Tarumovka district of Dagestan while trying to retrieve a powerful improvised explosive device from a cache, it said.
