Weapons cache found near gas, oil pipelines in western part of Moscow region

MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Several bags presumed to be containing explosives were found near a main gas pipeline in the Moscow region to the west of Moscow, an informed source told Interfax on Wednesday.

Gazprom trunk pipelines go in one corridor with oil pipelines in this area, a source in the fuel and energy industry told Interfax.

"Bags presumably containing explosives made of ammonia nitrate and pellets with the word Ammonite on them were found near the village of Malyye Vyazemy in the Odintsovo district near a main gas pipeline," the source said.

"The distance to the gas pipeline is some 200 meters," the source said.

The territory has been cordoned off and bomb disposal experts were called to the scene.

The press service for the Odintsovo city district administration confirmed to Interfax that a bag was found, saying law enforcement officials were examining its contents. According to tentative information, the Ammonite pellets are beyond their expiration date.

Later, Transneft CEO's adviser and press secretary Igor Demin confirmed to the agency that a cache had been found in a warehouse containing used concrete blocks during an inspection of a trunk oil and gas pipeline at a distance of some 400 meters from the pipe. The bags containing explosive substances and detonators for them were lying separately, he said.

"Mine disposal experts and police with dogs from the Russian Interior Ministry's Golitsynsky police department Odintsovskoye of the Moscow region came to the place where the bags were found at 2:50 p.m. on September 25, 2019. An inspection of the bags yielded the following: five ammonia pellets in the first bag, four ammonia pellets in the second bag and a felt boot containing a bag with three detonators in the third bag. An inspection is ongoing,' the source said.
