Belarus ready to take any steps to achieve peace in Ukraine - Lukashenko

MINSK. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Belarus is ready to participate in the restoration of infrastructure in Donbas, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"I have said more than once that Belarus is extremely interested in the lasting peace and stability of our Ukrainian friends. This position is based not only on good neighborliness. The current conflict in eastern Ukraine breaks the hearts of the people of Belarus; this is our pain, too," Lukashenko was quoted as saying by the state agency BelTA at a meeting with the Ukrainian media on Thursday.

Belarus is doing and will continue doing its best to achieve peace in Ukraine: from ensuring the work of the trilateral contact group in Minsk and the provision of humanitarian assistance to participation in the restoration of infrastructure in Donbas. "We will take any steps that can bring us closer to peace. Steps that will be needed by the parties of the conflict, in the first place, the people of Ukraine," the president said.
