Russia, Cambodia join int'l initiative on not being first to deploy arms in space

NEW YORK, UN. Sept 27 (Interfax) - Russia and Cambodia have signed a joint agreement on joining the international initiative on not being the first to deploy weapons in space.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov signed the document on the Russian side, while Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhon signed it on the Cambodian side.

"This Russian initiative has already existed for some time, and we are glad that Cambodia has joined it. We want to put together a group of countries that call for peaceful space," Lavrov said following the signing ceremony, which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Prak Sokhon, in turn, expressed confidence that this initiative will prevent a further arms race.
