Russian military inspectors to visit Greek ranges - newspaper

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - A team of Russian inspectors will visit training areas and ranges of Greece on October 1-4 consistent with the 2011 Vienna Document, the Russian Defense Ministry's newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda said on Monday.

"A team of Russian inspectors will visit a designated area of Greece on October 1-4 consistent with the 2011 Vienna Document on confidence and security building measures," the newspaper said, referring to National Nuclear Threat Reduction Center head Sergei Ryzhkov.

"The inspection aims to establish the scale of verifiable military activity carried out within the designated area or to confirm the absence of reportable military activity," it said.

The inspection will be carried out on an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometers, the newspaper said.

"Russian inspectors will visit training areas and ranges and will be briefed on military units and formations stationed in the designated territory, as well as military activity, including the Parmenion 2019 exercise of the Greek Ground Forces," it said.

The 2011 Vienna Document envisages a broad exchange of information about military forces, defense planning, and military budgets. The OSCE member states also share information about certain types of military activity, invite observers, and hold inspections. The document aims to ensure security and build confidence between the participatory states (the OSCE comprises 57 countries in Europe, Asia, and America).
