Russian Ground Forces plans to use electric vehicles - commander

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - The Russian Ground Forces are considering the possibility of using electric vehicles for noiseless transportation, Ground Forces Commander Gen. of the Army Oleg Salyukov said in an interview published in the Monday edition of the Russian Armed Forces' official newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.

"We are considering the use in weapons of hybrid power units with electric transmissions using high-capacity batteries. Some work has already been done in this direction," Salyukov said.

This will significantly increase the power of machines, broaden their capabilities as regards sample formation and crew livability, and ensure the use of modern and prospective weapons, as well as new defense means, he said.

Salyukov additionally said that electric vehicles "will ensure stealthy noiseless advance to fire positions."
