MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Airborne brigades will hold tactical exercises in two Russian constituent regions on October 1-5, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
"The practice will involve airdropping personnel from military-transport aircraft to seize and destroy mock enemy command-and-control centers at an airfield and a militant training camp," reads a statement obtained by Interfax.
The exercise with the Kamyshin air assault brigade in the Volgograd and Saratov regions will involve over 2,000 paratroopers, the ministry said.
At one stage more than 600 troops will jump from aircraft with parachutes, it added.
The exercise involves "around 400 units of combat hardware, of which over 100 are armored vehicles including around 30 T-72B3 battle tanks, 50 pieces of artillery and mortars, eight Il-76MD aircraft, four Mil Mi-8 AMTSh transport combat helicopters, and four Mi-35 attack helicopters," the ministry said.
