Zelensky should present his ideas about Donbas status in Normandy format, TCG - Chesnakov

MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax) - Moscow calls on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to present the draft of a new Special Status Law for Donbas for consideration in the Normandy format and the Trilateral Contact Group, Center for Current Politics Director Alexei Chesnakov told Interfax.

"Of course, neither Russia nor Donbas will recognize a new Special Status Law unless it is coordinated with them. The Ukrainian president should present his ideas for consideration in the Normandy format and the Contact Group," Chesnakov said.

He expressed concern about Zelensky's plans to adopt a new Special Status Law and said it "resembled the practice of Poroshenko who disavowed his own actions in order to confuse and deceive everyone."

"On one hand, Zelensky signs the Steinmeier formula, which guarantees a special status of Donbas. On the other hand, he says there will be another, new special status, and no one knows what it will be. Just like Poroshenko, he is trying to petrify the Minsk Process and to reduce it to imitation or even absurdity," the expert said.
