KYIV. Oct 3 (Interfax) - The U.S. embassy in Kyiv has named the withdrawal of armed formations opposing the Kyiv government from eastern Ukraine as a condition for elections there, calling on Russia to display "a political will."
"We welcome progress towards peace in eastern Ukraine and we call for reinstatement of Ukrainian control of its international border," the U.S. embassy said on Twitter on Thursday.
"Free and fair elections require withdrawing Russia-led forces and illegal armed formations from Ukraine's territory, and a secure environment. Russia needs to display a political will to make this happen," the embassy said.
