MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - The Russian Embassy in Tehran is aware of the detention of Russian journalist Yulia Yuzik in Iran and is working to learn more about this situation, the Russian diplomatic mission's press secretary Andrei Ganenko told Interfax on Friday.
"We know about it. We are looking into this situation," he said.
Journalist Boris Voitsekhovsky said on his Facebook page on Friday that Yuzik had been detained in Tehran. "Journalist Yulia Yuzik was detained in Tehran and placed in a cell yesterday. Her trial has been scheduled for Saturday. She may face up to ten years in prison," he said.
According to Voitsekhovsky, Yuzik, who had worked in Tehran as a correspondent several years before, again arrived in this country on an invitation a few days ago.
"However, her passport was seized at the airport and she was told that she would have it back upon leaving the country. However, yesterday officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps took Yulia from the hotel, knocking down the door to her hotel room. Last night, she was allowed to make a phone call to Moscow, but only for one minute. The only words she had time to say were that she is sitting on the floor in a cell, that there is no connection and that her trial is on Saturday. She has been accused of collaborating with Israeli special services. It carries a minimum [prison] term of ten years," he said.
Yuzik's daughter wrote on her mother's Facebook page that she confirms her detention and that her mother's trial has been set for Saturday.
In 2016, the PARNAS party nominated Yuzik in a State Duma election as head of the North Caucasus regional group.
