SAN FRANCISCO. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Russia hopes that Washington will make the right decision and the New START will be extended, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said on the sidelines of the Fort Ross Dialogue annual international forum in San Francisco.
"Russia has called for establishing a meaningful dialogue on the extension of this treaty. This can be done easily, considering that no ratification is required and a decision made by executive authorities will suffice. I want to believe that Washington will make the right decision and we will be able to extend this treaty," Antonov said.
"We should also think about confidence-building measures, which could be discussed or placed high on the agenda of the Russian-U.S. strategic stability dialogue in order to exercise arms control in such areas as missile defense, a ban on deploying weapons in outer space, and cybersecurity issues," Antonov said.
