NUR-SULTAN. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called the actions of the United States in northeastern Syria dangerous and said they may destabilize the entire region.
"Of course, the Americans should realize that the processes unfolding in northeastern Syria with their participation in the past two or three years directly violate the UN Security Council resolution, which demands respect for Syrian territorial integrity," Lavrov said at a press conference in Nur-Sultan on Wednesday.
The U.S. "has created quasi-state entities there [in northeastern Syria], has backed their existence and operations, and has been very active in promoting the Kurdish issue," he said.
"This is a very dangerous game. I was convinced of this when I visited Iraq and talked to Iraqi Kurds several days ago [...]. They were extremely concerned by the fact that this kind of careless attitude to an extremely sensitive issue may cause disturbance throughout the region, and that must be avoided at all costs," Lavrov said.
