Russian Foreign Ministry considering possibility of Normandy-format ministerial meeting - deputy minister

MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax) - The possibility of a Normandy-format ministerial meeting is under consideration, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said in an interview published by the newspaper Izvestia on Wednesday.

"The issue is under consideration," Vershinin said when asked whether at least a ministerial meeting was possible in the Normandy format.

The Kremlin said earlier that Kyiv's approval of the Steinmeier formula increased chances for holding a Normandy-format summit.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, for his part, that the Normandy-format summit would take place when "the presidents decide so."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the press on October 4 that preparations for a Normandy-format summit had already begun.

Ukraine, Germany, France, and Russia established the Normandy format in 2014 to settle the armed conflict in Donbas. The format started with a summit in Normandy on June 6, 2014, which was held on the sidelines of celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the WWII allied landing operation.
