MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a phone conversation discussed Syrian problems in light of Ankara's plans to carry out a military operation in northeastern Syria.
"The exchange of opinions on Syrian problems will be continued, specifically given those agreements reached at the meeting between the leaders of the guarantor countries of the Astana process in Ankara in September. In light of Turkey's plans to conduct a military operation in northeastern Syria, Vladimir Putin urged Turkish partners to assess the situation thoroughly in order not to upset joint efforts for the settlement of the Syrian crisis," the presidential press service said in a statement.
"At the same time, both sides stressed the importance of ensuring Syria's unity and territorial integrity, and honoring its sovereignty," the press service said.
