MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax) -The Iranian authorities have released Russian journalist Yulia Yuzik, who is already on her way back to Moscow, the Russian embassy in Tehran said on Twitter.
"As a result of joint efforts undertaken by the Foreign Ministry of Russia and the Russian embassy in Tehran, the Iranian side made a decision to release Russian citizen Yulia Yuzik," it said.
Yuzik is already returning to Moscow, the diplomatic mission said.
Yuzik's ex-husband, Boris Voitsekhovsky, wrote on his Facebook page later that the journalist, held by the Iranian authorities for more than a week, has already arrived in Moscow.
"Here is the end of the story. Yulia is already back in Moscow," he said on Thursday.
On October 4, Voitsekhovsky said that Yuzik had been detained in Tehran. Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei told Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov the same day that Yuzik would be released soon.
There is no information on whether Yuzik has been indicted. Associated Press said on October 7 citing Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabia that Yuzik had been detained over a visa problem.
Yuzik, who earlier worked at the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper and the Russian Newsweek magazine, has been writing books and has been engaged in investigative journalism since 2003. Her book, Brides of Allah (about female suicide bombers in Russia), came out in November 2003. Yuzik is also the author of the book Beslan Dictionary. In 2016, the Parnas party nominated Yuzik in a State Duma election as head of the North Caucasus regional group.
