SOCHI. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov has called on his colleagues from foreign special services to increase coordination of efforts to fight terrorism and intensify cooperation in the information sphere.
"Considerable damage was inflicted on international terrorist organizations with active involvement of our countries' special services community. However, large terrorist organizations, in the first place, ISIL and al-Qaeda [banned in Russia] have maintained the capabilities to continue their criminal activities," Bortnikov said at the 18th international meeting of the heads of special services, security agencies, and law enforcement agencies in Sochi on Wednesday.
"Some 1,500 attacks, in which over 6,500 people were killed and injured, occurred worldwide in 2019," he said.
It is essential for special service officials to increase the coordination and effectiveness of their interaction, broaden their experience of conducting coordinated operative actions, more actively exchange significant information, and intensify cooperation in the information sphere in light of the persistent threat of terrorist attacks, Bortnikov said.
