U.S. links non-issuance of visas to Russian delegation members to national security interests - Russian deputy envoy to UN

NEW YORK (UN). Oct 16 (Interfax) - The U.S. argument that some deputies to the UN General Assembly session were denied visas for national security considerations does not hold water, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gennady Kuzmin said.

"They say that the sole reason why visas are not issued is national security interests of the United States," Kuzmin told Russian journalists following a special meeting of the UN Committee on Relations with the Host Country.

"Their sole legal argument is laughable," he said.

"We think it's a lame excuse. This is not a serious argument," Kuzmin said.

U.S. representatives said at the Committee meeting that they were doing everything they could to deal with the visa problem but declined to comment on individual visa cases, Kuzmin said.
