Russian Interior Ministry detected over 100 instances of terrorist, radical financing in 1st half of 2019 - deputy minister

SOCHI. Oct 16 (Interfax) - The law enforcement agencies detected over 100 crimes related to Russians' financing of terrorist and radical organizations in 2019, First Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Gorovoi said.

"Great importance is attached to detecting external and internal sources of financing of radical structures. A total of 102 such crimes were recorded in the territory of our country in the first half of the year, specific transfers of funds to terrorist and extremist organizations were traced," Gorovoi said at the 18th international meeting of heads of intelligence services, security forces, and law enforcement agencies in Sochi on Wednesday.

The deputy interior minister additionally spoke about the measures taken by the ministry to restrict access to banned websites; the interior ministry officials have added about 38,000 websites to the unified register of prohibited information since the beginning of the year.

Policemen identified over 800 crimes of a terrorist nature and 300 citizens who committed them in 2019, he said.

"The effort to neutralize the activities of emissaries of international extremist and terrorist organizations forming sleeper cells in the territory of our country continues," Gorovoi said.

He cited as an example the terrorist cells whose members prepared terror attacks in Moscow and the Moscow region which, in cooperation with the Russian Federal Security Service, were detected in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District and Tatarstan.
