Russian border guards wounded while detaining N. Korean poachers discharged from hospital

VLADIVOSTOK. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Doctors have discharged from hospital the four Russian servicemen who were wounded while detaining poachers from North Korea in the Russian exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan in September.

"All four border guards have been discharged," the Russian Federal Security Service's Border Guard Directorate for the Primorye Territory told Interfax on Wednesday.

According to earlier reports, border guards detected fishing vessels flying the flags of North Korea which were engaged in illegal fishing in the Sea of Japan in the exclusive economic zone of Russia on September 17. The violators put up fierce resistance during their detention. Four Russian border guards were wounded. The servicemen were hospitalized and two of them were operated on.

The Far Eastern Directorate on Transport of the Russian Investigative Committee is investigating a criminal case opened on the basis of attempted killing of a law enforcement officer.

The Nakhodka City Court arrested the North Korean fishermen who actively resisted the Russian border guards during their detention at sea.
