NUR-SULTAN. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Kazakh hails Seoul's policies aimed at reducing the tensions in the region and developing inter-Korean relations, Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi said.
"Kazakhstan's foreign policy is aimed at promoting equal and trust-based dialogue [...] Kazakhstan supports the peace process on the Korean Peninsula and Seoul's policies to reduce the tensions in the region and develop inter-Korean relations," Tleuberdi said at the forum Central Asia - Republic of Korea held in Nur-Sultan on Wednesday.
The U.S.-North Korean summits held in 2018 and 2019 demonstrate the parties' intention to end the era of open opposition and mutual accusations, the Kazakh foreign minister said.
"Kazakhstan also believes that the current problems associated with the North Korean nuclear issues should be settled solely peacefully through dialogue and with regard for the interests of all relevant parties. Achieving peace free from nuclear weapons is the main priority for Kazakhstan," the minister said.
"In today's world [...] possession of this type of weapons is not an indicator of supremacy, but is a threat to global security and an obstacle to cooperation with the international community. In this regard, I believe the creation in Central Asia of a unique Zone free from nuclear weapons may become an example to the Korean Peninsula region," Tleuberdi said.
The 12th session of the Central Asia - Republic of Korea is held in the capital of Kazakhstan on Wednesday. Its participants plan to discuss cooperation in the sphere of technical standardization, water resources management, implementation of joint projects in the sphere of IT, and cooperation in the sphere of "green" energy.
