Yars ICBM hits training target in Kamchatka - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - A Yars intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched during the Thunder 2019 exercise has hit a training target in Kamchatka, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"The crew of a Yars road-mobile ground-launched missile system has fired an intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetsk state testing cosmodrome toward the Kura range in Kamchatka," the statement said.

Meanwhile, crews of Iskander road-mobile short-range ballistic missile systems fired cruise missiles from ranges of the Southern and Eastern Military Districts.

The launches of cruise and ballistic missiles were controlled from the Russian National Defense Control Center, it said.

"Tasks set for the exercise of the strategic deterrence forces were fully accomplished, and all missiles hit their targets and confirmed their performance characteristics," the statement said.
