SOCHI. Oct 17 (Interfax) - The issue of regulating the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Russia must be addressed at the legislative level, according to Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB).
"At present an idea is being advanced of regulating the use of such equipment in our country. The first steps in this direction have been made, this was related to a decision by relevant government agencies, and we will also raise this issue at the legislative level," Bortnikov told journalists on Thursday.
Anyone can buy drones or assemble one at home, he said.
"It all depends on the purpose someone is buying such a machine for, what they are going to do with it, whether just for area imaging or for appending some incomprehensible things and then dumping them on people's heads," Bortnikov said.
For terrorists, drone use is an inexpensive way of committing attacks, which too poses a threat to security agencies "from the standpoint of control over, and detection of, such activities," he said.
