Chechen troops present in Syria only as military police

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Chechen Republic head Ramzan Kadyrov noted the considerable contribution the Russian military police, including residents of Chechnya, made to normalization of the situation in Syria.

"There are no Chechen servicemen [in Syria]. There are military units of the Russian Armed Forces deployed to Chechnya. In the unit of the military police deployed to Syria, the majority are Chechen residents," Kadyrov said in an interview with Interfax.

Military policemen help carrying out tasks of ensuring security of civilians, facilitate the establishment of peaceful life and deliver humanitarian aid, he said.

"The war-worn population of Syria is immensely grateful to our military police. Representatives of the clergy, social organizations repeatedly went there at my instruction. They heard only words of gratitude from residents and the authorities," the Chechen head said.
