Russia open to bilateral, multilateral military cooperation with Asia-Pacific states - Shoigu

BEIJING. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry is offering a positive agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation to Asia-Pacific states, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the plenary meeting of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum on Monday.

"We are prepared to hold expert consultations on the broadest range of issues, to unify terms, and to participate in combat training. We are fruitfully interacting in the multilateral formats of the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting (ADMM) involving dialogue partners," Shoigu said.

This year, Russia and Laos are completing their joint presidency in the ADMM-Plus Experts' Working Group on Humanitarian Mine Action, he said.

"In this context, a Russian engineering unit cleared over 100 hectares of Laos' land of explosive devices in March of this year. More than 340 air-launched munitions and mines left behind since the time of the American aggression were neutralized. In addition, we keep training Laotian sappers to operate Russian engineering equipment," Shoigu said.

In 2020, Russia and Myanmar will be presiding in the ADMM-Plus Experts' Working Group on Counter Terrorism, he said.
