Beijing against deployment of missiles in Asia, Pacific - Chinese defense minister

BEIJING. Oct 21 (Interfax) - China vigorously opposes the deployment of intermediate-range missiles in Asia and the Pacific by side states, Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe said.

"Some countries pursue an exclusive security strategy: they try to deploy intermediate-range missiles in Asia and the Pacific, strengthening military unions targeted against other countries. We vigorously oppose that," Wei Fenghe said at the plenary meeting of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum on Monday.

"China wants regional problems to be resolved using the forces of the countries of the region," he said.

"Non-regional countries should refrain from interference in the affairs of the region," Chinese Defense Minister said.
