Moscow ready to assist in Ankara-Damascus dialogue - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Russia is ready to assist in the dialogue between Syria and Turkey, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Certainly, it is necessary to establish dialogue between Turkey and the Syrian Arab Republic, and we are ready to play a supporting role and to encourage their contacts," Lavrov said at a press conference on Monday.

"Obviously, the dialogue between Ankara and Damascus must be based on the 1998 Adana Agreement, which is the international legal foundation recently reaffirmed by both sides, in particular, in the context of the ongoing events. If the sides decide in the course of their contacts that it is either necessary or mutually acceptable to update or modify this agreement in any way, that would be their decision and we will of course accept and support it," he said.
