MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - The United States, which has been the closest ally of Kurds over the past few years, has betrayed them, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"The United States has been the closest ally of Kurds for the past few years. But in the end the United States has abandoned and practically betrayed Kurds. They have preferred leaving Kurds on the border and nearly forcing them to fight Turks," Peskov said.
He thus commented on a statement by U.S. Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey who doubted that Kurds would leave the areas specified in the agreements.
Clearly, if armed Kurdish units do not retreat, "that will have to be done by Syrian border guards and Russian military police. In that case, the Turkish army will roll over the remaining Kurdish units," Peskov said.
