Russian fighter escorted U.S. B-52H bomber flying over Black Sea on Oct 19 - Defense Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - A Sukhoi Su-27 fighter escorted the U.S. Air Force's B-52H bomber throughout its flight along the line of Russian territorial waters in the Black Sea at a distance of about 70 kilometers, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"After the bomber approached the Russian border, it was met by a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter of the standby air defense forces of Russia's Southern Military District, which escorted the bomber throughout its flight at a distance of about 70 kilometers from the line of Russian territorial waters. The Su-27 successfully accomplished the mission and landed at its home airfield in Crimea," the statement said.

The event took place on October 19 when "Russian airspace surveillance systems tracked the B-52H strategic bomber of the U.S. Air Force approaching the Black Sea waters," it said.
