SOCHI. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Uganda is keen on buying more Russian weapons, including battle tanks, and can do so on a loan basis, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said.
"You are supporting us by selling good Russian equipment: aircraft, tanks. We want to buy more," Museveni said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on Wednesday.
"We used to pay in cash. Cash, cash, cash. And all this really slows down the payment process because we need cash in order to pay. So what would I like to suggest? You ship to us, and it would be loan funded shipments, which would speed up the delivery," Museveni said.
He also spoke of his interest in setting up facilities for repair and service of Russian equipment.
"We have a lot of Russian equipment, and at present we have to move it whenever maintenance is needed, and the transport costs are very high," Museveni said.
Speaking of Putin's Russia-Africa summit initiative, the Ugandan president said that the event was long overdue.
