Special services thought they caught James Bond, but all they got was Mr. Bean on holiday - Whelan on his case

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - U.S. citizen Paul Whelan, who is charged with espionage, has compared himself to the popular British comedy character Mr. Bean.

The Russian special services thought they had caught James Bond, but they really got Mr. Bean on holiday, Whelan said in the Moscow Lefortovsky District Court on Thursday.

Whelan said no exhaustive evidence in the espionage case has still been presented to him.

The U.S. embassy officials who were present at the hearing did not talk to the press.
