MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Border Service of Russia's Federal Security Service is interested in acquiring new technology, including border patrol lights with a projection range of up to 20 kilometers and radars which can work in the Arctic.
"Following analysis of products approved and planned for acquisition, we have prioritized the following areas as promising developments: means of military lighting, stationary and mobile projectors with a range of ten to 12 kilometers on the ground and up to 20 kilometers at sea," the agency's representative Andrei Dorokhin said during the service's scientific-practical conference as part of the Interpolitex international exhibition.
The Border Service is paying great attention to radars.
"At present, our radars ensure observation within a range of up to 35 nautical miles (around 65 kilometers). We need a system capable of detecting and tracking overwater targets at a great distance, including beyond the horizon, and adapted for use in the Arctic," Dorokhin said.
The agency is interested in the development of technical surveillance posts which can be "set up at unprepared sites and are fitted with an autonomous power system," and it is especially important for such posts to be transportable by vehicles which already exist, he said.
