MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The national operator of remote sensing satellites, Russian Space Systems, is using its satellites in orbit to monitor the situation in Sochi, which is hosting the Russia-Africa forum.
"Between October 17 and 24, 2019, monitoring was provided for the following events: evaluating the situation at the mouth of the Bureya River, Khabarovsk Territory; monitoring the situation in the city of Sochi during the Russia-Africa forum; and a dam failure in Krasnoyarsk Territory," Roscosmos stated on its website on Thursday.
As part of efforts under the international charter Space and Major Disasters, monitoring was provided on wildfires in Syria, a flood in Cameroon, and Typhoon Hagibis in Japan, the statement said.
"Additionally, in the interest of media coverage of natural and man-made disasters globally, plans were made for space imaging of wildfires in the United States and forest fires in the Novosibirsk region," it said.
