Yantar shipyard launches two research vessels

KALININGRAD. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The Yantar Baltic shipyard, an affiliate of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), has launched the Yevgeny Gorigledzhan oceanographic research vessel of Project 02670 and the Almaz oceanographic research vessel of Project 22010, a spokesman for the shipyard told Interfax.

"Two oceanographic research vessels have been launched in working mode, without holding any ceremonies. The reason is that the construction of the Yevgeny Gorigledzhan and the Almaz has been accompanied by difficulties and delays. Their launch was due last year," the spokesman said.

The Russian Defense Ministry's Interagency Coordination Council adjusted the construction period and the cost of the Yevgeny Gorigledzhan in May 2017 due to the increased scale of works.

This ship will be carrying manned submersibles of the Rus and Consul types and Bester-type rescue vehicles. The ship has a displacement of 4,000 tonnes, a length of 81 meters, a width of 16 meters, sea endurance of 30 days, a crew of 32, and 25 expedition members.

The Almaz oceanographic research vessel of Project 22010 was due to be launched in fall 2018.

Ships of Project 22010 have an unlimited range of operation. They are tasked with studying the waters and bottom of the World Ocean. Such ships can carry deep-water manned and unmanned submersibles of the Rus and Consul types. They can also be used for rescue operations and search for sunken objects on the sea and ocean beds.
