Decision on northeast Syria suits all sides - Russian parliamentarian

MOSCOW. Oct 30 (Interfax) - The removal of troops from the safe zone in northeastern Syria in line with the Sochi agreements suits all parties to the conflict, being conducive to the resolution of the Syrian crisis, according to Dmitry Novikov, first deputy chairman of the state Duma foreign affairs committee.

"The situation has largely stabilized, because a solution has been found which by and large suits all sides involved in the conflict," Novikov told Interfax on Tuesday.

"This improves [Syrian President Bashar] al-Assad's position, this allows [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan to and come out of the situation with his face saved," he said.

The removal of armed forces "suits the Kurds quite well, because it creates this fairly temporary situation for them to resolve a number of issues relating to the Kurdish autonomy in the Syrian Arab Republic.

"It also suits us because, in this particular instance, we are making one more step towards resolving the whole situation in which we are involved at the request of the legitimate Syrian government," he said.

"This partly suits even Trump," he added.

"At this stage, all sides have seriously advanced in resolving the complicated situation, and the only losing side are the forces of international terrorism," Novikov said.
